Tracheitis

Diagnosis of exclusion, when there’s just a prominent cough, nothing else:

  • No URI symptoms
  • No fever
  • No true dyspnea (which exacerbates upon exertion)
  • Normal lung exam

Consider Pertussis if cough is paroxysmal, especially if there’s post-tussive vomiting.

Also called Laryngotracheitis [even “Laryngotracheobronchitis”].  Called “Croup” in kids <3 y.o. [not the focus of this Blog]
