Meniere’s Disease

Onset usually age 20 – 40

Duration of attacks 20 minutes to 24 hrs.
  • BPPV attacks last <60 secs
  • Labyrinthitis lasts longer, doesn’t recur
Diagnosis requires episodes of:
  • Vertigo
  • Sensorineural Hearing Loss
  • Tinnitus (usually low-pitch) OR Sensation of Ear Fullness
  • Document hearing loss by audiometry
Cogan’s Syndrome: very rare autoimmune condition
  • Vertigo and Interstitial Keratitis
  • Consider if Meniere’s patient gets bad eye pain
