Rheumatic Fever

Quite rare (and virtually only ages 5-15, possibly up to 25)

Migratory polyarthritis: one joint resolves in 1-3 days, another becomes inflamed
  • ASA / NSAIDs may attenuate all future joint involvement

Seek another Major Jones Criteria (besides arthritis):

  • Heart Murmur
  • Syndenham’s Chorea (abrupt movements, muscle weakness)
  • Erythema Marginatum (faint; comes & goes in hours)
  • Subcutaneous nodules (rare)
