Folliculitis

Macules, papules, pustules, furuncles (boils), even carbuncles (coalescence of furuncles), which emanate from hair follicles.
  • Caused by Staph aureus (MRSA, depending on local resistance patterns)
  • Primary lesions: circular erythema with a hair in the middle.
  • Hair may not have grown, or may have been shaved.
  • Shaving spreads the Staph
  • May be diffuse, if the patient scratches & auto-innoculates
Folliculitis is much more common than scabies.
